Do you enjoy tuning in to podcasts to learn ways to build your pet business?

There are pet business podcasts popping up all over the world where you can learn ways to boost your brand.

I’ve rounded up a selection of shows that you can tune in to to improve your skills as a petpreneur.

From how to run a six figure pet business to improving your mindset around money and behind the scenes snippets of life as a vet rehabber, there’s so much wisdom you can glean.

Dominic Hodgson – The Poodle to Pitbull Pet Business Podcast

The Poodle to Pitbull Pet Business podcast is hosted by Dominic Hodgson, who runs his own boarding and dog adventure business in Sunderland in the UK.

Dominic has a mix of solo episodes, interviews with people in the pet industry and some episodes are co-hosted with Alex Wardle – aka Alex the Video Guy – who is a videographer and works with clients in the pet industry.

The podcast started in 2018 and the focus is on how to market your pet business, with advice on creating paper and ink newsletters and the importance of creating a premium pet business.

It’s a weekly show and Dominic does put out bonus episodes. Recent ones cover goal setting, what to do if you think you’re not good enough, and interviews with pet business owners from all over the world.

Anna Webb – A Dog’s Life 

You might be familiar with Anna from Barking Blondes with Jo Good on the only radio show dedicated to dogs in Europe, BBC Radio London’s ‘The Barking Hour’.

While not strictly a business podcast, by listening to Anna you can gain an insight into what journalists want which is really helpful when compiling pitches and story ideas.

Along with the podcast Anna is also a columnist for plenty of canine magazines including My Weekly, Your Dog, Your Car, The Good Vet & Pet Guide and Animal Therapy Magazine.

Her podcast It’s A Dog’s Life is available on both Apple Podcasts and Spotify with weekly updates, each episode ranging from 30 to 45 minutes. 

The podcasts feature a range of different guests from Jade Statt from StreetVet, Lucy’s Law campaigner and vet Marc Abraham and one of my favourites is with Dave Wardell and Fabulous Finn, and her series celebrating 160 years of Battersea.

Beverley Cuddy – Editor of Dogs Today – The Devil Wears Dog Hair 

Here’s a podcast with a great insight to the workings of the media, with Beverley Cuddy, Editor of Dogs Today magazine.

This podcast gives listeners topical thoughts on dogs mixed with a real insight to what it’s like to be the editor of a magazine.

And I love its film reference name!

Beverley has been in the industry for more than 40 years talking about dogs and campaigning for issues such as increased penalties for people convicted of pet theft, the horrific practice of ear clipping and Lucy’s Law.

Since February she has released monthly podcasts with special guests and insights to the pet industry. 

Each episode is around two hours long and as well as being able to listen on Apple Podcasts you can also watch her interviews with videos from her Facebook Live page on her website, so you can really put a name to the face!

Nick Benger – Dog Talk

Nick Benger is a dog behaviourist consultant from Bristol, England, he runs HoundPlus, a training business and is currently on TV in Amazon’s The Pack

He was releasing monthly podcasts throughout the whole of last year but this year has had a bit of break as he’s been filming in the States. 

He’s produced 72 episodes so you have plenty to binge and has gone back to regular shows, mixing up pet owner questions with interviews with high-profile trainers.

Nick’s recent podcast is a question and answer about how to cope if your dog is aggressive towards house guests and another covers resource guarding.

His podcasts usually last under an hour and feature guest interviews with pet industry experts and insights into pet businesses.

Kate McQuillan – Pet Sitters Ireland

Kate McQuillian is the brains behind Pet Sitters Ireland, her business is the alternative to using kennels or catteries when their owners are away from home.

Her Pet Podcast is aimed at pet owners and features interviews with pet professionals, with advice and tips for pet businesses and owners to listen to. 

The first episode of the podcast was released in 2016 with frequent episodes all the way up to December 2018. 

Although there have been no new episodes you can listen back and learn from her fantastic insights, including dangerous food for dogs, traveling with pets and understanding the sounds that your dog makes.

Meg Kelly – Vet Rehabbers

The Veterinary Rehabilitation Podcast is hosted by Dr Megan Kelly from Online Pet Health and covers all areas of pet health, education and business skills.

She’s based in Cape Town, South Africa, and every week posts 30 to 40 minute length podcasts speaking with people in the pet industry. 

Megan’s community is made up of pet professionals working in rehabilitating animals, including hydrotherapists, massage therapists, vets, vet nurses and she takes listeners behind the scenes of their work.

The podcast also covers marketing and business tips, education training advice, and innovations such as cryotherapy.

Bella Vasta – Bella in Your Business

Bella Vasta is hosted by the one-woman coaching company, Jump Consulting, which was named after jumping out of an aeroplane. 

Her motto is ‘Always keep jumping’! 

Since 2007 Bella has coached pet sitting businesses and published some of the most comprehensive research on industry topics. 

As well as writing the book The Four Types Of Dogs Every Business Needs: How to Build the Right Team To Grow Your Business and Have a Balanced Life she’s spoken on stages around the world.

Bella’s podcast has over 200 episodes, she posts weekly with podcasts lasting between twenty and forty minutes. 

Each shares her business insights for pet businesses covering a range of topics which aren’t always discussed. 

Sometimes she will have a guest on her show to talk about the topic they are covering. 

Her most recent episodes cover finances and video training, plus What you need to get your pet business out of the Covid Crisis and Getting in Control of the Financial Numbers in your business with Jamie Trull.

Kristin Morrison – Prosperous Pet Business

Kristin Morrison is the host behind the Prosperous Pet Business podcast, using her business coach background to help give listeners tips and advice to nurture their pet business into financial abundance.

Kristin has coached pet businesses from all over the United States, Canada, UK and Australia for the past twenty years.

So she has tons of knowledge about the industry and experience to back it up.

The podcast episodes range from featuring real-life coaching calls with pet business owners and their challenges, in others Kristin interviews experts in the field to show a greater understanding of how to run a successful pet business.

The frequent podcasts are now on episode 81 which is all about resolving conflict with pet business clients, staff, family and friends the episode features guest coach John Kinyon who shares tips and advice with Kristen.

Other episodes include talking about the unexpected power of using snail mail to get pet business clients and Kristin’s hack for productivity and procrastination-busting.

Dog mum and entrepreneur Tori Mistick lives in America and leads a community of over 70,000 enthusiastic dog mums which she’s been building since starting her blog in 2013. 

In addition to her blog she has a weekly podcast which releases interviews with likeminded people from the pet industry. 

Each week she shares pet business dreams with her audience, spreading inspiration, tips and advice. 

Her most recent episodes cover selling pet products on Amazon, working with influencers and building sustainable and environmentally friendly pet brands. 

Tori also offers courses on Instagram and Pinterest for pet industry professionals and walks the walk as a pet brand and influencer herself with Labradors Lucy and Burt.

Meghan and Collin Funkhouser – Pet Sitter Confidential

Meghan and Collin Funkhouser are pet sitters and have created their podcast for those in the industry to share stories and insights, helping to grow knowledge in the community.

The couple run a weekly podcast which usually lasts around thirty minutes, they talk about all things pet sitting, interviewing people in the industry.

Plus they have business based episodes on the challenges you might face as a pet sitter covering topics like marketing, social media, mindset and SEO.

Recently they spoke about back to basics boarding breaking down how they operate as a business with a small number of dogs in their home.
