What do you want to be known for in your pet business?

And what would you like people to say about you when someone asks about your business or what you offer?

That’s the topic of this week’s podcast, as it’s a common theme that comes up in my coaching and membership calls.

In this episode, I’m exploring how to figure out what you want to be known for, and how to bring that to life.

There’s a simple four-step process to follow, with examples from two pet business owners, Kim O’Donnell from Leo, Charley and Me, and Gill Gallagher from Speaking Spaniel.

Plus, I share how I’ve applied this to my coaching business and holiday cottage, so you can do the same.

Why what you want to be known for is important

My clients often feel like they create brilliant products or services, and despite their efforts to let people know what they have to offer, they still feel invisible.

One common frustration is not being mentioned in social media recommendations.

For example, a business offering holistic grooming for dog owners in Warrington might not be mentioned when people ask for that exact service.

For the dog groomer, this is really frustrating, and it’s why being visible for your offer is key.

This happened to me in a pet professionals group where someone asked about coaching and mentoring.

Despite my credentials, other people were recommended, but not me!

It was frustrating, especially after investing thousands in becoming an accredited coach and mentor.

Instead of banging my head on the desk – I did that a bit too – I figured I needed to do something about it.

I refreshed my website and brand, started talking more about coaching and mentoring, and shared the ongoing studies and books I’m reading.

I explained what coaching is and highlighted what makes me different in the pet business coaching space.

By taking responsibility for how I’m perceived, I ensured that potential clients understand the value I offer.

So how do you figure out what you want to be known for?

Here are three key questions to consider…

Think about what you want people to instantly think of when they hear your name.

What do you want them to say about you?

What do you want to be known for?

Four steps to determine what you want to be known for

  1. What do you do? What do you feel passionate about when it comes to the thing you deliver as a pet business owner?
  2. Who needs what you offer? This step is about knowing your target audience and what specific problems you solve for them.
  3. Craft the right message to land with those people. Develop a clear content strategy that highlights what sets you apart and the value you offer.
  4. Get that message out there and keep repeating it! Ensure all your marketing materials consistently reflect your message, and share testimonials and valuable content to build your authority and visibility.
